The BBC World Service has this piece on the reported abduction of a teenage girl from Bayelsa state last summer. Ese was allegedly abducted when she was 13 by a man who knew her mother. He then took her to Kano state, forced her to convert to Islam and married her. In recent weeks this case has garnered a lot of attention in Nigeria, especially on social media with the hashtag #FreeEse. The case falls across both religious and geographic divides – difficult topics in a country struggling to deal with corruption.
