Three arrested following the kidnap of a government official in northern Bangladesh.

Govt official rescued hours into abduction

DB police sources said a gang of four picked up Yusuf Mia, 34, an official at Dhunat upazila accounts office, from Mofiz Paglar intersection in the town at around 8:00pm on Monday.

The gang took Yusuf to a house in Woodburn Park area in the town and phoned his relatives, demanding Tk 1 lakh ransom for his release, source added. 

Though Yusuf’s relatives gave the kidnappers Tk 32,000 through a bKash account, they demanded Tk 32,000 more for his release.

Receiving an SMS text from Yusuf, DP police raided the house at around 1:30am, rescued him and arrested three of the gang. Another abductor named Shakil Mahmud, 25, of Khandar area of the town managed to flee.
